When should I replace the PUF coating?

How often does the coating on a PUF roof have to be replaced?

Coatings typically have to be replaced every eight to fifteen years. If recoating is deferred, damage to the foam may be expected.

Look for problems at flashing details as with any roofing system. These include blistering, delamination, crazing, checking, chalking, erosion, spalling, mechanical damage, bird pecking, pin holes, flaking. Look also for punctures, voids or cracks, that allow moisture into the membrane. Birds have been reported to peck at PUF roof membranes and a large number of pin holes may be found as a result. Take a walk on the roof, and watch for movement of the membrane relative to the deck. This suggests separation of the PUF from the substrate. Look at the underside of the roof from below.
