Can I buy a new remote for my garage door and change the code so that the old one doesn't work anymore?

Craftsman Garage Door Opener Model 139.53684 Security+ Keyless Entry. This part number is on the side of the item 41A5483-5C.

The model number you included for the Keyless Entry only and not the overhead Opener unit itself, so if you just want to change the code on the keyless you can simply reprogram it. Once the code is reset only the new code will work and the original code will no longer be recognized or work.

Using the model number you included, you can view the Owner's Manual for that keyless entry online at Manage My Home for the programming instructions. The instructions are also shown in the first image below.

If your concern was with a remote rather than the keyless you still should be able to reprogram it. Using the model number shown on the overhead Opener itself you can see that manual and the programming instructions. For most newer models such as this one appears to be, the instructions in the second image and other links below should also work. There may also be instruction on the overhead unit or the keyless cover to help.

If a remote or keyless will not reprogram properly then their batteries may be low and need replacing. Or, the Opener memory may be full or have soem issue and might need to be erased. Again, there are images and instructions below that should help. Be aware that erasing the memory will require you to then re-program all your remotes and any keyless entry.
