Why do I have to get within 10 feet of the garage for the remote to work on one of my garage door openers?

I have two openers with several remotes. Suddenly, with one of the units, you have to be within a few feet for any of the remotes to work. They work fine with the other unit. The hardwired button works correctly. I checked to see that the antenna was hanging properly as the users manual said. It's hanging down and looks like the one that works. Can I try anything else?

The main reason remote controls on garage door openers lose their range is that there is some RF signal in the area. Since one opener isn't having a problem, I don't think you have something leaking RF in your garage or home. Some things that can cause RF signal are water softeners, portable phones, television cables, automobile engines, and generators.

Try turning off the power to the opener that is working and see if the range improves on the one that has the problem. Sometimes the logic boards will leak RF and cause other openers to lose their range.

If the range improves when you disconnect the other opener, you will need to replace the logic board on the opener that is working ok.
