Why would my Keyless Entry close but not open the garage door?

I am very frustrated, having tried numerous Sears phone #'s but all I get is someone who wants me to pay them to come fix my problem. I am looking for some old fashion, troubleshooting assistance; customer service. I have a Craftsman Security+ Keyless Entry, P/N 139.53684 purchased with my Craftsman garage door opener at a Sears store about 3 years ago. Two days ago it began malfunctioning. I put in a fresh battery but it still did not work. When I enter my code and push enter, the door will close all the way, but the keypad flashes maybe 20 times. However, the door will not open, but the keypad flashes as before. Can you tell me what the problem may be. Thanks

Check if there is a flashing green light on your wall control in the garage. Some models have a security/vacation lock or mode that limits operation of the keyless entry and remotes so that someone who might already be inside can open the garage door but others can?t. If that is the case it could account for the odd flashing on the keyless entry.

You can also try resetting the PIN code (Personal Identification Number) of the keyless entry. Or even erasing/resetting the opener memory itself, though that would require reprogramming all your other remotes as well.

If neither of those work, but the wall control and other remotes will work normally, then the problem is likely in the circuit board of the keyless entry itself and the keyless entry will need to be replaced.

Your Owner?s Manual will have more information on any vacation mode, programming, and which keyless entry should be used with your model. You can get the manual online at Manage My Home by going to the Home page and holding your mouse over the square labeled HOME in the upper left of the page. A drop-down menu will appear, choose the option Products and manuals and then enter the model number and information off your overhead opener itself.

The programming procedures are often listed on the Opener panel as well and the information below will also work on most newer-style Craftsman openers.

To program a transmitter/remote, do the following

1. Press and hold the selected remote push button.

2. Then press and release the SRT (learn) button on the back panel of the opener. The opener light will flash once.

3. Release the remote push button.

Now the opener will operate when the remote control button is pressed.

If you decide to use a different remote control button than originally programmed into the opener, you need to erase all the learned codes and reprogram each remote control used to operate the garage door opener.

To erase all codes

1. Press and hold the SRT button on the overhead opener panel until the indicator light turns off (about 6 seconds). All the codes the opener has stored in its memory will be erased.

2. Repeat programming steps 1, 2, and 3 above for each remote control in use.

To change your Keyless Entry PIN code do the following

1. Press and release the SRT Learn Button on your Garage Door Motor unit. (Don?t hold it too long or it will erase all memory and your remotes will need reprogramming).

2. The Learn Indicator light will come on.

3. Within 30 Seconds, enter your new four-digit PIN code then press and hold the ENTER button.

4. Release the button once the Garage Door Light flashes. If you have no bulb in the unit then listen for two clicks.

The code should be changed. Test by entering your new code and hitting ENTER and if the code is good the door will move.
